The Blind Can See
Budapest, Hungary
The cool Hungarian night made me even more sleepy than the 1:00 am hour. Myself and three friends were celebrating while we walked to the car. The excitement was in awe of all we had just seen God perform in the healing crusade.
The meeting began with 30 minutes of sharing stories of God healing others, then we spent the next four hours praying for people who needed healing. Seeing God heal people never gets old and it’s worth every ounce of exhaustion we were feeling in that moment.
Between the four of us, we had separately hosted healing services in over 30 countries. Jokingly, one of my friends asked me if I had ever seen a blind person healed? This particular friend was far more traveled than me and had not only seen a blind person healed, but also seen three dead people raised to life. Radical….I know, right? LOL!! That still happens today.
I had seen God heal eyes many times so people wouldn’t have to wear their prescription glasses anymore, but never a blind person healed. Perhaps if God would send a blind person, I would have the opportunity.
The following day, we returned to the church rested and ready for the second service. Two hours passed as people approached us one–by-one for healing prayer. Never did I think that a joking conversation would turn into reality this quick.
The next woman in line approached me and I asked, “What do you need from God today?”
“My mother needs prayer. Could you please come to her seat and pray for her?,” came the response. My interpreter, along with another church leader, walked with me to find an 86 year old Hungarian woman blind in one eye.
Let’s stop here for a minute and take a deep breath. I assure you that my heart was beating just as fast as yours is right now. I had been praying for sick people for over 5 years by this time and seen God (NOT me) heal all kinds of sicknesses and even a few incurable diseases. However, there is nothing like standing before a crowd of people while an 86 year old blind woman asks you to pray that God open up her blind eye. This is some real New Testament Jesus stuff.
Fighting to keep my faith, God & I have a silent conversation, “Lord, I have seen you heal people with eye problems, even people who wear glasses, but I have never seen you heal a blind person. This seems huge! I know that all things are possible with you. You are a huge God and I know you can heal this woman.” I laid my hands on both her eyes and prayed, then removed my hand from her blind eye to test her vision.
Nothing happened.
We prayed again.
Still nothing changed.
I highly doubt Jesus was thinking the same thing I was in this moment when He put mud on the blind man’s eyes. First of all, when Jesus prayed for the blind man, it only took him two tries. I’m now on my third try with no mud in sight, so I had a choice to make. Believe God or flee?
Then I remembered what Psalms 103:3 says, “I forgive all sins and heal ALL DISEASES.” I looked intently at this beautiful woman and her daughter and said, “We are going to pray one more time!”
I laid my hand on her left eye and commanded all vision to return in Jesus Name. When I removed my hand, she said, “I can see a woman standing in front of me.” Immediately, those praying with me and the daughter began to shout and dance! Then, the daughter placed her hand over her mother’s right eye and held up two fingers, “What do you see, mother?” “Two fingers,” came the response.
I’m so glad I chose to believe instead of flee. God healed this blind woman.
Hebrews 13:8 “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today and forever.”
