A home inventory is often shared when someone who has encountered a demon in some form in their home. I get these calls a lot. Either someone felt, saw, smelled a demon or they have problems sleeping at night. If you sense fear in your home for any reason then you have a spirit in your home. 

2 Timothy 1:7 tells us that fear is a spirit. 

John 8:12 says, “Jesus said “I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” So, if you have darkness in your home that is consistent, then you probably just need to do a spiritual inventory in your home. 

A friendly reminder: It is highly recommended that you complete the personal spiritual inventory before moving forward. Be sure you have closed all doors in your personal life that may have been opened to spirits/demons to enter your life before dealing with the spirits.  This is especially true for the head of your home. 

Doors. 

Satan has no right in our lives that are inhabited by the Holy Spirit, unless we open a door for them to come into our home or life. Doors can be opened and they can be shut. If you are experiencing spiritual oppression then all we need to do is find the door and shut it. Are you ready? 

This is not an exhaustive list of doors, so if God shows you another door then follow His lead in closing it. This list is common doors I’ve seen when praying for people and their homes. Read over this list and ask the Lord to reveal any doors that have been opened. Take your time, make notes, and then we are going to take action to shut the doors in the next section. 

DOOR 1: OCCULT 

Some people skip this section because they automatically assume they don’t involve themselves in the occult, however, I encourage you to ask the Lord to reveal His truth about these doors in your life. 

Has anyone in your family opened a door(s)? 

Has your ancestor opened a door? 

For example: Generational spirits handed down through FreeMasonry, Eastern Star, Shriners, Rainbow Girls. 

● Witchcraft is the power branch of the occult (1 Samuel 15:23). 

Doors: Anything that falls into Manipulation, Control, Intimidation, Dominatation, Rebellion, Drug abuse, Selfishness, Hypnosis, Levitation, Acupressure, Acupuncture, Mind control, Automatic handwriting and handwriting analysis, Wicca

● Divination is the knowledge branch of the occult 

Doors: Astrology, Channeling, Crystal Balls, Palm Reading, Ouji boards, Tarot 

card readings, yoga, Horoscopes, ESP, Fortune tellers, Soothsayers, Psychics, Stargazers, Enchanters, Spirit guides, Animal guides, Astral projection, Druidic & Celtic witchcraft, 

● Sorcery operates through material objects. (Revelation 9:21) 

Doors: Drugs, Heavy Metal Music, Chanting, Crystals, “Lucky” symbols, 

Birthstones or Birth charts, Zodiac charms, Amulets, Talismanic clothing and objects, Evil eye, Goat symbols, etc.

● False Religion: New Age, Mormons, FreeMasonry, Jehovah’s Witness, Christian Science, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, Middle Eastern Religions

DOOR 2: HIDDEN 

The bible says that satan prowls around looking for whom he can devour. The definition for prowling is to move around restlessly and stealthily, especially in search of or as if in search of prey. Doors opened through the occult may seem obvious to most, but for the Christians who are taught in church to stay away from the occult the enemy has to be a bit more creative. Hidden doors often cause deep seeded fear and we know that 2 

Timothy 1:7 tells us that fear is a spirit. The spirit of fear can also be a gateway spirit that opens the door for other spirits to torment you. 

Think back to when you first started having this issue….. 
Hidden Doors: 

● Watched scary movies or anything that would invoke fear [or your issue]. 

● Listened to music with lyrics that promote fear [or your issue]. In the car, at home, at someone else’s house, etc. Especially if you started singing the song - remember power in your words. 

● Read books that invoke fear [or your issue]. Even if you haven’t read them and they are in your house the spirit of fear [or your issue] still resides with those monetary things b/c you've opened the door to them to be in your home. Remember there is life and death in the power of the tongue, including written words. The word of God has power in it and when we read it or speak it, we give it power in our life. 

● Involved in conversations about fear [or your issue], even if you didn’t say anything, but others were talking about it - that spirit was invited into the conversation. 

● You have been involved in sexual or sinful immorality outside of the house. If you have participated in porn, sex, or emotional relationships with someone this creates a covenant bond between you both spiritually, which means the spirit that is attached to them now has right to be in your life. Even if you are married and your spouse is unfaithful, whoever they had sex with now has access to him, you, and your kids. You may not be experiencing fear, but if that other person lives in fear, the door is opened and it now has access to you. 

● You have something in your possession that has a spirit attached to it. You may not know this if a curse was pronounced over it or its origin is from a place of darkness. 

● Pay attention to items in the children’s room, such as books, music, posters, DVD/videos that promote witchcraft in any form.  No matter how innocent it may seem.  (i.e.  Disney, Harry Potter, etc.) 

DOOR 3: UNKNOWN 

Just about every time I have prayed with someone, God reveals something in a person's life that does not fit into any of these doors. It’s important to listen for the voice of the Lord through this process who may show you what to do. There is no set method to freedom. God is the one who gives freedom, not a method or process. So if through prayer God revealed to you something else, don’t dismiss it. 

Examples of things that I’ve seen God reveal: 

● A man started a new job that God told him not to and it brought back migraines. 

● A piece of jewelry given to a person as a gift of endearment. 

● A coffee mug that no one in the house is allowed to use but mom. 

● Poster in a child’s room. 

● A souvenir bought in a foreign country. 

SLAMMING DOORS: 

Not literally, but spiritually.  The reason this is not titled, “Closing doors,” is because slamming is a response to an attack. That’s exactly what the enemy is doing right now to you. He is attacking you and we are about to slam these doors in his face. As it is with God, this will be easy because though we may feel weak, God is strong. We have also been given power and authority by the enemy, so remember, “YOU’VE GOT THE POWER!” 

I remember a time in my life where satan had me so bound up in fear that I didn’t think I could do these next steps. Satan (not evil spirits, but Satan himself) had been appearing in my dreams for weeks. I was so paralyzed with fear that I turned on every light in the house, blasted worship music, called a friend and was still scared to walk around the house. My friend said they would pray until I called them back. I remember starting out like a puny little mouse commanding the enemy to leave, but God rose up in me like a lion. It felt like I was storming (& slamming) the gates of hell that night. That was an instrumental time in my life when I experienced the ALMIGHTY power and authority that God has given every believer. Trust that God will rise up in you and there is NOTHING to fear. 

Next steps: 

1. Identify the Door(s) 

2. Close the Door(s) 

3. Prayer(s) 

4. Blessing(s) 

IDENTIFY THE DOOR(S) 

Gather your family together or if you are single, get a friend you trust that hears from the Lord. Go through each room - one at a time - asking God to reveal anything in your home that does not belong to the kingdom of God. You can use the list of doors and the notes that you took. Look around. You may have things that you forgot about or that others gave you and you tucked away. If you see something and feel uneasy, then you need to put it outside the room you are in for now.  Confess out loud to each other, ask the Lord for forgiveness and repent of any door(s) that have been opened. 

Children: 

If you have children in the room, encourage him to ask Jesus and wait to hear his voice. It may take time and it also may sound different that you expect. For example, a 5-year old that I used to pray with a lot would say she saw "baddies" when she was really seeing demonic activities. CLOSE THE DOOR(S) 

After you’ve prayed over the room and removed everything that doesn’t belong, go immediately outside to burn it. If it’s music, movies, books, or tangible items you need to burn them. Don’t trash them or give them away. Burn them. If you give them away or someone finds them in the trash, then the spirit is passed on to the next person. 

It’s not uncommon for people to see unexplainable things when you burn items. I hear a lot of cool stories about these moments. 

PRAYER(S) 

After you’ve identified the door(s), confessed out loud, repented by burning the items, then go back to the same room. Now it’s time to pray. Now is the time to get rid of the tormenting spirits. Together repeat this prayer out loud or using your own words. 

Optional Prayer: (You may pray your own prayer or speak this one out loud if you agree with everything it says.)    “In Jesus Name, no weapon formed against us will prosper. I command every demonic spirit of fear (name any other things that come to mind) to leave in Jesus Name. I close every door that has been opened for you. I have no need for you in my life or my home. I bind you up and command you to flee to dry places in Jesus Name, never to return. Father God, I welcome your presence, peace, joy, and life everlasting into my home.” 

Then wait…. Do you feel the peace of God? If you don’t, then go back to identifying doors and closing door(s) again. Repeat until you have peace in this room. 

BLESSING(S) 

After you have completed all the steps for one room, move to the next room. Do this for EVERY room, garage, porch, etc. on your property. Go outside and walk the property lines of your home as well. Now it’s time to pronounce a blessing over you and your home. You can think of blessings as claiming God’s promises over your life. Anytime you remove evil from a place, you always need to replace it with God’s blessings. 

Next Steps: 

Pray a prayer of blessing over yourself, everyone that lives in your home, and your place of residence.  Read any scriptures you may know by heart or look up scriptures shared below to read out loud - declaring them over you and your family. 

Optional Prayer: (You may pray your own prayer or speak this one out loud if you agree with everything it says.)    “Thank you, God, for revealing your truth to me today. Thank you for freedom in my life, my family's life, and my home. I welcome all your blessings and promises into my life right now. Thank you, God, for your Word that is truth and has the power to change my life. Instead of believing lies of the enemy, I choose to believe your word that says, [say corresponding scripture below.] 

Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. Jeremiah 17:7-8 

The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace. Numbers 6:24-26 

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11 

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:19 

You shall serve the Lord your God, and he will bless your bread and your water, and I will take sickness away from among you. Exodus 23:25 

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! Psalm 34:8 

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Philemon 1:25 

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied. Matthew 5:6 

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Philippians 4:23 

The good person out of the good treasure of his heart produces good, and the evil person out of his evil treasure produces evil, for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
