Fear Fighter
The busy noise of cars honking, off-key karaoke, and loud music faded as we drove further out of the city and into a rural village. I loved the village sounds of wind in the palm trees, children playing soccer in the dirt and family laughter. The rest of the car ride was quiet, which gave me time to reflect on my teaching for the evening. People from 53 villages were coming together to experience God and His grace. I felt so blessed to be a part of this service.
My driver, Adom, whom I had only met one other time, began to ask about my teachings that week. His eyes stared in amazement as I shared stories of people who had been healed of sickness and delivered from bondage through prayer. Then he asked, “Are you one of those people?”
As I tried to hold back a chuckle, I said, “One of what people?”
He said, “One of those people who cast out demons?”
My chuckle was a full-blown laugh that soon turned to reassurance when I responded, “Yes, I am! And you can be one of those people too!! Mark 16:17 says, that you have been given power and authority to cast out demons.”
As he turned his head to watch the road again, Adom quickly assured me that he was too scared of demons and he had no desire to do that.
I soon realized that Adom was not just my driver today, but he was put in that driver seat by God. I went on to explain. Did you know that the bible says, “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind?” Scripture clearly tells us that fear is not just an emotion, but it’s a spirit too. So if fear is not from God, then where does it come from? ”
I could see the wheels turning in his head as he realized there may be truth to what this white lady was saying. So, we prayed a simple prayer together as we pulled up to the village I would be speaking at that evening. “God, thank you that you have not given Adom a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind. As a child of God, you have given him power and authority to resist demons, and they have to flee in Jesus Name.”
“So if fear is not from God, then where does it come from?”
Three days later, Adom picked me up again for another speaking engagement. He wasted no time in telling me about his miraculous experience, “Khristina, do you remember how you told me that I have the authority to tell demons to leave? Well, two nights ago I was walking into my home and heard something behind me. When I turned to see who it was, there was no one there. My heart started to race and I could feel fear rising up in me, so I did what you said. I told fear to leave in Jesus Name and my heart immediately stopped racing and I felt no more fear.”
“The next night”, he continued, “in the middle of the night, I woke up and could feel a demonic presence in my room, so I told it to leave in Jesus Name and it left just like you said it would leave.”
I will never forget the look on Adom’s face. It was like a new man had been born. His newfound freedom was worth more than any earthly treasure. It reminds me of why God says he will leave the 99 to find the one. Hearing Adom set free from fear and lies was worth more than any treasure. God had not forgotten Adom.
At first Adom wasn’t interested in attending the church services he was driving me to every night, but that didn’t matter. God met Adom where he was…. in the truck. That day is when Adom decided to start joining the church services.
Then, when I thought it couldn’t get any better…….
God surprised me again. That night out of the corner of my eye, I saw Adom praying for people during the service. He was casting out demons and laying hands on the sick and seeing God heal them.
That’s what it’s all about! Freely you have received, freely you should give to others. Nothing we do is insignificant and not one person we meet is insignificant. In God’s eyes, we are all important and He will do whatever it takes to show us He love’s us.
